GRADUATE STUDENT AWARDS

Felix Kannemann (supervisor A.D. Becke) and Victoria Walker (supervisor R.J. Boyd) received the first and second place prizes, respectively, for their oral presentations at the 11th Atlantic Theoretical Chemistry Symposium, May 13 to 15, Saint Mary's University.

Amy Trottier is the recipient of the 2010 Governor General's Gold Medal, awarded to the most outstanding Master's graduate in the Natural Sciences and Engineering.

Michelle Everist has been awarded a prestigious Vanier Scholarship. This award recognizes students for both their academic excellence and community service.

Sarah Crawford has been awarded the President's Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for 2010.

FACULTY AWARDS

Alan Doucette has been awarded the 2010 Harry Shirreff Prize in recognition of his outstanding research accomplishments.

Mary Anne White has had her appointment as one of 15 University Research Professors renewed for a further period of 5 years.

Peter Wentzell was the recipient of the 2010 Faculty of Science Excellence in Teaching Award.

Mary Anne White was the recipient of the 2010 Undergraduate Chemistry Society Teaching Award.

The appointment of Joe Zwanziger as a Tier I Canada Research Chair has been renewed for a further seven years.

Gianna Aleman-Milan has been selected as the recipient of the Canadian Society for Chemistry Faculty Advisor Award for 2010.

Don Weaver has been selected to receive the 2010 Bantrel Award in Design and Industrial Practice presented by the Chemical Institute of Canada. The Bantrel Award is given to a Canadian citizen or a resident of Canada for innovative design or production activities accomplished in Canada.

Don Weaver has been awarded a prestigious Canada Council Killam Research Fellowship. The Fellowship will relieve him of teaching responsibities for two years, allowing him to focus exclusively on his research into Alzheimer's disease.

Randall Martin has been awarded the Faculty of Science Killam Prize for 2010 as well as being appointed as a Faculty of Science Killam Professor effective July 1, 2010

Jean Burnell has been awarded the Dalhousie Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2010, Dalhousie's highest honour for teaching.

Don Weaver has recieved the Prix Galien Canada Research Award, widely regarded as the most prestigious award in pharmaceutical research in Canada.

Jeff Dahn has been awarded the 2010 Rio Tinto Alcan Award from the Canadian Society for Chemistry. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in the fields of inorganic chemistry or electrochemistry made while working in Canada.
