Each application for graduate studies in chemistry is considered by the department's Graduate Studies Committee, which also maintains records and monitors the progress of each student. A recognized BSc degree (four-year degree with chemistry major) is usually expected for admission.
Prospective students are encouraged to complete and return the application form as early as possible, especially in the case of international students. Application forms and support material may be found on the Registrar's graduate application site.
Original transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended are required, together with two letters of reference.
(Please note, chemistry applicants are not required to complete "Financial Support" Section under Additional Information)
In addition, prospective students from outside North America and Western Europe should arrange for submission of original results of the General Graduate Record Examination (GRE). All candidates whose native language is not English must also arrange for submission of original TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) results. The Faculty of Graduate Studies requires prospective students to achieve a TOEFL mark of at least 600 on the paper-based exam in order to be considered for enrollment. The minimum score required on the computer-based exam is 237 and for the internet-based test it is 92.
Students are welcome to come and visit the department and talk with prospective supervisors. In addition, email correspondence with faculty members in whose research you are interested is strongly encouraged. Descriptions of possible research projects are directly available from the faculty and you are advised to discuss ideas and projects. For general information, write to the Graduate Secretary:
