Research Interests: Bioorganic Chemistry, especially Bacterial Metabolism and Mechanistic Mass Spectrometry

Current investigations focus on amino acid catabolism in anaerobic bacteria, biosynthesis of nonprotein amino acids in aerobic bacteria, and mechanisms of collision-induced dissociation (CID) reactions of gas-phase ions, principally anions. These research topics are studied from a chemical perspective, using techniques from organic, analytical and biochemistry. Synthesis, isotopic labeling, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, enzymes and fermentation are of particular importance, helping to advance the scientific understanding of fundamental biological and chemical processes.
